Boone, Blowing Rock - recommendations of where to stay
We are thinking of heading to Boone, Blowing Rock this weekend or next. We've never been there so are interested in enjoying the area. I'm finding it hard to find 'reviews' and such on the various mom/pop places to stay. Don't really want to stay in a branded hotel, so does anyone have recommendations on places to stay out there? Thanks in advance.

Do a google search for Fleetwood Falls. It is a neighborhood on a mountain with alot of cabins for rent. We stay there each year and have stayed there for the last 15 years. It is a few miles outside of Boone. Don't forget to eat at the Daniel Boone Inn. And don't forget to stand on THE blowing rock. I have photos of each kid from stroller to teenage years! This is peak time in the mtns. so hopefully you'll find a place.
Can't wait to head over there, myself!

jenkins rentals in Blowing Rock for houses/condos...
There's a Hampton Inn in Boone that's nice...
Broyhill Inn in Boone is cool as well.
There are lots of "inns" in Blowing Rock...you really can't go wrong there.

Great advice! Day's Inn is the only chain in Blowing Rock. I love Gideon Ridge Inn (B&B) in Blowing Rock. But be sure to call ahead; this is high seasons for "leaf lookers." If you have trouble finding lodging, try calling NC High Country Host. They usually track available lodging during high seasons (or at least used to) for the entire area. Blowing Rock Chamber has good information as well.

So glad this topic came up, I was just looking for Cabins today!!! Also, we went a couple of years ago, and I swear the uphill (UP-MOUNTAIN with NOT GAURD RAILS)!!! driving nearly killed me, which would be the least steap way to go - if that makes any sense of if it is even possible?????????????

I guess you could always have a helicopter drop you in. Just kidding.
If you are asking for a specific driving route, tell us where you are coming from.

That would be a good place to start!
Coming from the Raleigh Area up to Boone, which would be the most "conservative" road to travel???

When you get to Winston-Salem, take 421 to Wilkesboro. It is 4 lane all the way to Boone. Have fun.

The easiest route is I-40W to Hwy 421N. That is a four-lane highway with reasonable grades all the way into Boone.
I think Vicki gave a great recommendation above for a place to stay. The Fleetwood area is in southern Ashe County so its a bit removed from all the congestion in Boone & Blowing Rock. However, its only a short drive to either of those towns, as well as charming West Jefferson a few miles to the north, Todd with its old-time general store and the Blue Ridge Parkway. Beyond Fleetwood Falls, there are many other rental cottages & cabins available in the area. High Country Host will provide you links to all the rental agencies in the area.
