Default Best place to get a cabin in the mountains???

We are looking at several areas including Highlands, Bryson City, Asheville, etc. Any suggestions? We are all late 20 somethings and would like to be close to a town where we could walk around and go to a bar or something. Just don't want to be stuck in a cabin all day. Any suggestions? Highlands looks nice but not sure if there is a lot going in February which is when we are going. TIA.

I guess you're talkng about renting a cabin for a weekend? Definitely look at the Asheville area or possibly Boone/Blowing Rock. Highlands is great in the summer (though I'm not sure it's all that great for 20 somethings) but definitely quiet (if not dead) in the winter. Same for Bryson City, unless there's some college action nearby in Cullowhee.

We are coming from Birmingham, so the the more south and west, the better. Doesn't have to be crowded, just maybe some good food, or bar and grille. Or stuff like bowling, whatever.

Look in the Asheville area, then.
