A little early, but Christmas tree farm related~ (Waynesville, Spruce Pine: rentals, home)

Hi there. My husband and I live in the Piedmont region of NC and we are looking to head to the mountains and choose and cut our own Christmas tree this year. We are looking for a good sized farm with a big selection of trees. I have been onto the christmas tree website and see all of the farms that are in the mountains, but it's so difficult to select one. I want this to be a good trip for us, as it's not down the road from our home. Any advice/suggestions would be great! Thanks!

Ashe and Allegheny Counties generally have the largest farms with the widest selections. Assuming you're planning to spend the night and make a mini-vacation out of it, I'd recommend Ashe County. West Jefferson is a charming town with nice shops and restaurants and the surrounding countryside is spectacular.

I agree that there are lots of great choices in Ashe and Alleghany, as well as all of northwest NC. I applaud the OP for wanting to make an experience out of your choose-and-cut venture.

Our mountain home is near Banner Elk and Linville. My personal favorite is Twin Pines on Hwy 221 between Linville and Pineola. Been going there for years.

There are worlds of Christmas tree farms in the area. My cousin grows Christmas trees in her back yard (which goes up a mountain side).

I recommend Boyd Mountain Farms in Maggie Valley. It's a great choose & cut place. While you're waiting for your chosen tree to be cut, wrapped and tied to the top of your car, you can have hot chocolate in the warm hospitality tent. It's great!
