Rental in Cherokee, Sylva or Bryson CIty, not vacation
I am looking for a rental property in Cherokee, Sylva or Bryson City. I need to rent from late Feb or March09 through Oct09 or so for some phd fieldwork in the area.
I'm having the hardest time finding anything but expensive vacation rentals online. We need 2-3 bedrooms and solid internet access (that we can pay to have installed if it's available). We prefer a house but would take a nice apartment. I found some online in Collowhee but my wife and I are in our mid 30's and don't want to go into an apartment complex completely populated with WCU undergrads.
Any suggestions?
We plan to drive out in the beginning of Jan to look for places, but I would love to have some prospects lined up before then. As close to Cherokee as possible would be best.
thanks in advance

Cullowhee is a college town, stick to Sylva, maybe even Webster.
What area will you be working in? Frankling has some options, Waynesville does also. Cherokee should too.

My wife will be doing her research in Cherokee proper so we need to be fairly close. I work at home (internet guy) but plan to spend a good amount of my time fly fishing and picking mushrooms.
I just found the Sylva Herald newspaper online
For Rent
and the Smoky Mountain Times
The Smoky Mountain Times
I don't know why I didn't think of looking up newspapers! If you can think of anything else let me know.
Franklin and Waynesville might be ok but add time to the daily commute to Cherokee. Of course if something popped up with a trout stream in the back yard it might be hard to pass!

I'd look at Cherokee then. There are some places there, actually a lot. Let me email a buddy who lives there.

That would be GREAT! I know there is the Cherokee one-feather newspaper for the Qualla Boundary but they don't have an online component.
I will be heading up there in early Jan to look around for places, I just don't like to fly by the seat of my pants if it don't have to.

Hi, I was curious how your rental worked out. Your question sounds very similar to what I am considering doing next summer - research in the Cherokee area for a short term (2 months). Which areas did you consider living for your wife's work in Cherokee? Was it difficult to find a place to rent? Price range for rentals? Any advice would be appreciated!
