Stay out of Buncomb County. As soon as you cross the county line housing prices drop considerably. Also, if you look in the city keep in mind that you pay BOTH city and county taxes--ljp

Alexander County, and the town of Taylorsville, Bethlehem and Hiddenite are great. I live in the County, Good home prices, lot's to do, 1 hour or less from skiing in Boone, an hour or so to Winston Salem and Charlotte, and close to Hickory about 20 minutes.

Home prices are low, and the living is slow, no rush hour or crowds, but reasonable houses and alot to do in the community.

That's exactly why I'm a renter. If I were to consider buying anything I'd have to move so far out that I would consider moving out of the Asheville area.
