We are starting to enjoy fishing more and more so we want to find out more about the Lake Hickory and Lake Rhodhiss area. Seems near 40 & not too far from Asheville & Charlotte for shopping and airport .

Anybody know what house prices are in that area and neat towns
near there??
You might want to check out Mountain View, southwest of Hickory.

Kelly,
I was re-reading this thread, and I posted much earlier about Waynesville, but that it wouldn't have the acreage in your price range. In my re-read, I noticed you wanted to live in or very close to a small town, and also that you wanted to be close to an airport...I had missed that part about the airport before. Since Asheville has an airport, I did a quick search of just a couple small towns outside Asheville and found a house with 2+ acres near Fairview, and another house with 2+ acres near Weaverville. Found some trailers too. But anyhow, the problem with those places is they are actually miles and miles from the "town" they're listed under, so not sure that's what you want. But could be if you're willing to live in the middle of nowhere on the far outskirts of Asheville, which those two towns are, then maybe homes like those would work.

Rutherfordton is a great little town...definitely at least worth a look...very strategically located in relation to Asheville, Greenville/Spartanburg, and Charlotte. Also...it's only 3 hours to Atlanta as well.

Good luck,

p.s. Finding a newer home on 5 acres for <$150k, that's a very tall order, often it takes that amount of cash to find the land only.
I have had others suggest to me TN. also when I was checking things out in W. NC....

My wife's in real estate and can tell you, not much around Asheville metro area unless you can settle for a double wide. We bought a single family home about 6 years ago for around $135,000 but today even with the drop off, it's up in value to about $190,000.

Default Actually, you can get something nice in Hendersonville...

Actually you can get something quite nice for under that. My home in downtown Hendersonville is on the market. If you're looking for something like a bungalow, this one is 823 sq ft, approximately. New plumbing and electrical rewire, brick, enclosed front porch, wall to wall carpeting, a/c and heat, appliances. Large corner lot fenced in with a separate garage. The price is right at 129,900, is located three blocks west of Main Street.

I have to move out of state due to personal reasons and I am unable to live in it and care for it, so it has to go on the market. I can't post the website because of the terms of this forum and it may cross a line and be considered "commercial". So if you are interested, respond to this post and I will get back to you with a way to send the website.

There are nice little places out there for under 150k

PK
