My wife and I may be relocating to the area and would appreciate your thoughts. A bit about us: we are in our mid and early fourty's, enjoy the outdoors, bicycling (road and Mtn), swimming (need a gym with a pool in the area), could care less whether are neighbors are white, black, asian, etc., are Christians, enjoy the arts on occasion, and a little slower pace of life. We also enjoy motorcycling, some sense of community, and a chance to get to know our neighbors.

We are tired of the rat race, large city commutes, crime, the sterility of the 'burbs, and big box retailers.

Although I am confident there are many nice areas, this particular area has been selected as the move is job related.

Please provide the good and the bad.

Wilkes area sounds perfect for you. The YMCA there is nice & has a great pool. We love the greenway there! The Yadkin River Greenway was created through the cooperative efforts of citizen volunteers, landowners, and the governments of Wilkes County, North Wilkesboro, Wilkesboro, and the State of North Carolina
