It could or could not be a good deal. You will find a lot of mill houses in the Spindale area. It all depends on what you are looking for. Visit Moderator cut: ad and go to the neighborhood info section. Spindale's zip code is 28160. Feel free to pm me with any other questions you may have.

In my opinion most houses worth living in cost over $25,000 even in NC. I looked on the MLS for a house at $25,000 in Spindale and it came up with a 1.5 story brick house with 2 bedrooms and 1 bath on a .5 acre lot. Is that the same house or sound like it?
Some of the things you want to watch for are bad neighborhoods, house condition and a house's proximity to the railroad tracks. That house I found on the MLS was only a block away from the railroad tracks.

Richard..I guess it is similar. The house I saw on craigslist was on an acre & it was 2br & it was about 900 ft. It sold in one day sight unseen. Me living in NY makes it tough to buy out of state property. IM tryying to get something similar in price. I dont intend on moving there for about 8-10 years. Im always looking for bargains really. thanks

Since you're looking at 8 to 10 years to make up your mind why don't you spend the next 7 to 9 coming down here and seeing what some of these places are like for yourself. It can be a real eye opener. My wife and I took 7 years worth of trips down here before we decided on a area.

Richard..that sort of kills my strategy of saving money. in 9 years the properties may be twice as much. Of course, it is better to actually be there to view whats around. Wish I could do it one day. thanks

Spindale
Hi Sharksy...
We lived in Spindale a couple of years ago...and sold that home and moved to the town of Forest City....It's a much better run town and progressing much better...
You are right though...the longer you wait to purchase a home the more the price will increase. Forest City is booming. I would suggest Rutherfordton OR Forest City, but NOT Spindale. The town, unfortunately, is not progressing and dying a slow death.
What type of home are you looking for? We have a home that will be for sale in another 7 months. My husband has renovated the home.
It's in a wonderful neighborhood in Forest City. If you are interested in more info. about the property, I can send you some pictures and more info.
It is definitely NOT a 25K home, though..but as I stated earlier...property values in the town are increasing daily! They are totally renovating an old mill here into shops, condos, restaurants, and a theatre. People from Florida are moving up here because the taxes are so reasonable....
If you are interested, you may email me.
Thanks.

I lived in Spindale for 47 yr. and the RR tracks have been replaced w/walking trails. It runs paralell to main st. There are many reasons to be careful when buying in the area. There is a convience store on Spindale street that cannot sell gas though they have a nice little hotdog/hamburger etc. grill. You would be better served to look in forest city or rutherford for your investment as spindale has really went downhill in the past 5 years. The houses there are mostly mill houses that are beginning to deteriorate badly. You can drive down spindale street and see dealers standing out in the open meeting drivers there. They do have a pool but are having trouble keeping it open and have debated on closing it down the past three years. I moved out because it had gotten so bad. There are a lot of slum lords in the area(mostly yankees coming in buying cheap and renting out to whoever ) and even though they have ordinances out the ying yang the board of commissioners do not enforce. Great to buy if you want slum property to rent out.

I live about 25 minutes away from Spindale, in Cleveland County, N.C. I looked at property up in Rutherford County, and there are some decent cheap places in Mooresboro, Ellenboro, and some of them look pretty decent, in the $60,000 to $100,000 range, which is pretty reasonable, but you'd want to really check into the neighborhood, especially if a home is only $25,000. There are also homes here in Cleveland County listed in for $25,000 and even less than that, that would appear to look pretty good just looking at them on the internet. But most of them are located on roads I won't drive down in broad daylight! (Contrary to popular belief, it is not all "Mayberry" down here).
If you do settle on Spindale or the surrounding area, better check out the job market if you need employment. I decided against that area because there really aren't any jobs, there's hardly any here in Cleveland County, but Rutherford County is even worse. If you're retired or don't need employment, I guess that wouldn't be a factor.
