I was curious about Asheville because its a very remote town in the mountains and you'd expect it to be a little more conservative (not necessarily xenophobic, just more friendly, and old fashioned)

My experience with liberalized towns, is that while they do tend to have more options, they often lose that old Americana charm.

Well, the truth is Asheville is hardly remote. It is very accessible with two major interstates running right thru it

Now, now easy children, let's all get along!

Any town is what you make of it for yourself.

I am also an artist but a Republican. Some people think thats an oxymoron. But you'd be surprised how many creative conservatives there are. Especially here in Richmond, Virginia.
What do you want to know about the music scene?

Your viewpoint is interesting to me, because I sometimes wonder why I don't meet many people like myself; a musician with earrings and tattoos (former drummer and guitarist at that!) thats interested in traditional and modern art, progressive music, charitable causes.... it all screams young liberal, but I'm a gun-owning conservative that believes in Christian ethics and minimal government, aghh!

Theres nothing worse than being the most conservative and religious guy at the workplace, but at church you're "that guy with earrings and tattoos that plays guitar".

I'm interested as well in the Asheville music scene, I caught a couple acts from Asheville here in the Charlotte area last year. The wife and I hope to make some jaunts out there this summer for some live music, if someone will just watch the kids!

You might want to check out the Mountian Express newspaper, it's at mountainx.com. It's a little liberal, but it will give you an idea of the local culture. To me, the culture there is a mixture.

very liberal area. kind of strange, but the surrounding area is pretty comservative, but asheville is probably the most liberal city i've ever been to. it is almost wierd how liberal it is. but, with the major gay population, i guess it is to be expected.

This is a brief article about an Asheville City Councilman's observations of drug activity at a concert at the Thomas Wolfe Memorial Auditorium in the Asheville Civic Center.

Seems to be a Libertarian group there too www.lpbuncombe.org

You know, those crazy Libertarians who believe in silly things like the rights of the individual , taking personal responsibility, that ol US Constitution and those kinds of things that neither conservatives nor neo liberals seem to think as important?

There are more music-loving, art-loving, nature-loving conservatives/libertarians out here than many of you think ;-)

The nice thing I have found so far is people here seem to get along better. After living in Deep-Blue New England, it is refreshing! I can't even offer a conservative viewpoint up there without getting eaten for lunch!
