What could I expect living in Asheville? Does it have a good live music scene?

I'm one of those rare conservative artistic people.
Interesting how you conclude that if someone is a liberal, they are a wacko. Most artistic funky towns are started by hippies and free-thinking type of people who tend to be liberal and open minded. Wherever you live, you're going to have to be somewhat accepting of other views and cultures. If the world was made out of cookie cutter type people, what a boring place it would be.

Theres nothing worse than being the most conservative and religious guy at the workplace, but at church you're "that guy with earrings and tattoos that plays guitar".
All I can say to that is wow...and not in a bad way. You must feel like a crack between two pieces of concrete sometimes...I know you are a conservative, but the fact that your taste in art, music, and all the likings of a liberal makes you an interesting person. Does either group give you shame for being in the middle? I am truly interested...I like people who stand out

Asheville is most definitely liberal. An oasis in a otherwise very red south. The only friends we had the 18 years we lived down south, that were liberal, lived in Asheville. All the area counties around the western part of the state, are conservative. yes , a lot of dems. in them there mountains, but , they vote Rep.! When we went to the polls , we felt alone , big time !!

I visited Asheville last weekend. A nice place with very nice people. As having lived in MA almost all my life, I am used to liberals. What's the big deal about it, anyway? They are very interesting people, and more should have their life style, the world would be prettier, more colorful.
About Asheville, I just thought that it's quite small (its downtown area) and it should be larger, maybe there should be more incentives to attract more variety of businesses and restaurants, coffee shops, etc, then it would be super! Asheville is worth to visit. About living? I don't know, never lived there.

I'd rather hang with Liberals than neo-cons. I may not agree with Liberals on everything but they're fun to hang out with. I am unable to have discussions with neo-cons.

some of you folks crack me up.. you love to visit asheville, enjoy the diverse culture, incredible art, the music, the scene, then complain about the liberals.. you know that ones that make it what it is... stay up north, stay in florida and leave it alone... and this from a guy born in NY, grew up in Fla, and don't want to change a thing... you ruined florida, don't come here..
i loved the line about we need more coffee shops... i can walk to asheville from rooftop to rooftop on coffee shops and never touch the ground.. we need a bigger downtown? can't a town be what it is and not change for you? actually we need less box stores, no walmarts, and less chain restaurants.. welcome to ashvegas!
