Hi. I would like to find some very good quality plants anywhere in or around Asheville. Things like eggplant, better boy tomatoes, herbs, etc. I just moved and am wondering where some of the best places are.

WNC Farmer's Market, it's off I-40 and has its own marked exit. If you head west on I-40, it's one exit beyond the Biltmore House exit ramps intersection. At the top of the Farmer's Market exit where you stop, go left over the freeway, and it's the first place on your left. Jesse Israel's garden stuff is just inside the gate on the left, and the Farmer's Market wee-walls all down there on the right. That's just my favorite place, and all my plants have done very well from there over the years.

Jesse Israel is crazy expensive, though... it's definitely convenient since it's next to the Farmer's Market, but that's why they can charge what they charge. There are other garden centers that charge more reasonable prices.

The one I go to is out in Old Fort and a little hard to get to (probably not the best option for someone new to Asheville), but I'm sure there are other people who will list their favorites soon. Good luck!

Thank you for the tip, gigimac. I would pay top dollar for a really tasty better boy plant. The best places I've found in the past just had a simple stand and no phone book listing, so you just had to hear about it or drive past.

I will toss in Ream's Creek Nursery. They are right off the highway ion Weaverville.
Great plants, great native plants and great herbs and veggies!
They have some honker sales too!!
