Default gem mining near cashiers/sapphire?

I will be going to cashiers/sapphire nc in june with husband and 2 kids (5& 2 1/2). It has been suggested that the kids would really like the gem mining. Does anyone know of good ones not too far from that area?

If you are looking for a good place to go gem mining I think you need to go to the Franklin,NC area. There have been so many gemstones found in Macon County they have shown it on the travel channel and nicknamed it the gem capitol of the world.
