Real Estate Agent - WNC
I'm looking for a real estate agent that could answer my questions about homes around the Asheville area. Someone honest, that won't push me to buy more than we're able or look down on us for needing affordable housing. Anyone know of any?
Basically, we want to know if it's reasonable to find a single-family house at about 150,000 in the Asheville area.

I would strongly suggest you go to www.Realtor.com (http://www.Realtor.com - broken link) and do some searches in the areas you would be interested in around Asheville. It is a real longshot to be able to find anything in that price range. However, without knowing your preferences as to square footage or condition of housing and how close you need to be to Asheville for work etc., it is impossible to determine. I can tell you that the average price for a home close-in to Asheville will be in the vicinity of $300,000. You will need to get more rural.
There are several major real estate franchises who have websites that will allow access to the Western North Carolina Multiple Listing Service which covers an enormously broad area. You would have to specify which towns around Asheville or else your search will be much too broad.
You want to search towns in Buncombe County and Madison County, possibly McDowell County; some parts of eastern Haywood County.
Once you get on the Realtor.com you will see franchises and agents' ads on the right hand side. Century 21; RE/MAX; Realty Executives of Asheville; Town & Mountain Realty and so forth.
Hope this helps you.

There are a few 3BR homes in Asheville for under $150,000. There are several going up on Wilmington St in West Asheville. There are some older bungalow style homes mainly in NW Asheville (west of the river, north of Patton Ave). Or you could do a condo or townhouse.
I used Steve Bourke (Keller-Williams) when I bought my home here four years ago. I was in your price range.
