A piece of Blowing Rock history appears to have closed
Any of you that are familiar with and/or have stayed at the Green Park Inn in Blowing Rock may be sad to know that an employee there called our office today and said they'd been notified of their layoff, and the Inn has closed its doors. I tried calling the Inn three times today to verify and get more information, however no one answered - the phone just rang off the hook.
I've never stepped foot in it, but have driven by it many-a-time. Every time it seemed there weren't many cars in the parking lot. While its grand appearance was somewhat overshadowed by the evident maintenance needs, I guess I figured it would always be open, as its stature seemed like something that would be on the NC register of historic places, if not the National register.
Maybe someone will come along and infuse some much needed cash to allow it to re-open.

Their website is still up, but that doesn't really mean anything.
If true, that's very sad. It's been around since 1890s...and I think the ghost stories surrounding it have been around nearly that long, too!
I heard a rumor that Tweetsie was closing next year. Does anyone know if that's true?

Sad news about Green Park Inn; I had a few friends who worked there during college at ASU.
Those Tweetsie rumors come around frequently. They are on leased land and the owner knows they could get big $$$ from developers for the land. I beleive they renewed their lease just last year, however I don't know the duration of the lease.

I finally got ahold of the Green Park Inn today, after trying their "Reservations Only" number. Their general number just rang off the hook. Anyway, someone answered right away and confirmed that they are no longer taking reservations, they have closed. I also wanted to know how many people might be affected with the layoffs so that our office would know what may be coming our way.
Yes, their website is still up. But they're closed.

This is such a shame! Hopefully new owners will be found and the place will be preserved.

That's sad. It could've been an awesome place, if they'd kept up on the maintenance and updates. I'm betting the bad reviews on so many travel websites and things really hurt them. Maybe somebody will buy it and do the needed work, because it could be such a nice place.

I agree with you, it has a lot of potential. I hope someone resurrects it instead of it just sitting and rotting.

Just read this thread as I was curious about the Inn. I see their website is gone now too.
