Default South Western North Carolina

We want to retire, find a cabin in the mountains and live a quiet peacefull life. We love animals and mountains.

Any suggestions as to nice towns? We're going to Murphy N.C. in May to check it out.

We relocated to Bryson City last year and love it here. If you are looking for a retirement home in the mountains, this is a very beautiful area. We are close to the Great Smoky Mountain Park and are surrounded by beautiful mountain vistas. There seems to be quite a large community of retirees here. We have not retired yet but have gotten to know quite a few of the retirees here. They are active and healthy and happy. Life here is peaceful and calm. The cost of living isn't bad depending on where you are moving from. We moved from Texas and found homeowners and car insurance to be half of what we had paid before. The taxes on our home are very low compared to what we were paying. While you are checking things out, take a drive to Bryson City from Murphy. If nothing else, you will enjoy the drive along the beautiful Nantahala River!

Clay County is popular with retirees too. Hayesville is located between Franklin and Murphy.

Try somewhere in Henderson County, it's peaceful, pretty, in the mountains but you're also not far from Asheville or Greenville, SC which are awesome towns.
