Awesome! Do you have work here lined up? There are few jobs available right now. Other than that it's Awesome! And also, rents are through the roof, $800 to $1500/month. BUT, it's a great place to raise kids, good hospital, low crime, great schools . . . The further you are the lower the rent. My daughter and granddaughter are in nearby Fleetwood, 20 minutes from Boone, rent is $450. Check out the classifieds at Mountain Times

Blessings,
Tracey

Its beautiful. Its not as hot there in the summer either as it is in the lower elevations in east Tennessee or the foothills of western NC either. Winters are colder naturally and more snow, but still nothing like up north. Its also not too far of a drive to larger cities like the Tri-Cities in northeast Tennessee or Mount Airy North Carolina, Hickory and Asheville either.

You may have already seen it... but here is a link with alot of useful data...

I'm interested as well, and will be searching for more! I also have two small boys and need to be near an airport. Is Tri-cities the closest?

Yes, it would be closer, but Charlotte is around a 2 hr drive and most use that airport. Charlotte is a hub and there is much more air traffic there.

Watauga County schools are good, but Boone can be expensive. Personally, I like Boone a lot more when the university is not in session. The traffic during semesters is very disheartening thru such a small otherwise pleasant area. Also, there is a lot of competition for rentals with students, so do consider going further out to get away from all that. Best of luck in your new home! I love our NC mountains

Boone is great! The perfect size town. Also, the mountains are beautiful and the air seems fresher there! An upbeat, relaxed atmosphere. Boone even has an Earthfare Grocery. Alittle bit of everything. Quaint college town. You can't go wrong in Boone. The mountains are beautiful. Also, Jefferson isn't far and it's a wonderful town to live in. My sister lives there, and I love visiting.
