Default Planning a trip to Asheville in Sept, the Grey Eagle

I would like to know about the Grey Eagle concert venue in Asheville. How big of a venue is it? Should I worry about tickets selling out? Is it indoor or outdoors?

I am interested in knowing because I am planning on seeing Town Mountain and my favorite, Greensky Bluegrass. play there in Sept.

Also, any recommendations on a reasonably priced place to stay?

Great venue IMO. I think it holds ~500 max but I'm not 100% sure. Sound and ambiance are pretty sweet. Just my kind of place actually. Intimate. If you are worried about a sell out just buy tickets online at their website. I always do that for shows there. They will be waiting for you at will call...

Great venue! It's indoors, but there is a patio out back. Not sure how many people it holds. Personally, I'd get tickets in advance if you know you're coming.

The most economical places are on Tunnel Road, on the east side of town (but it's only about 15 minutes to the Grey Eagle). Extended Stay is reasonable; also the Holiday Inn.

The Grey Eagle is great if you're open to the vibe it has. It's definitely a no-frills place to see a concert. Not as polished as the Orange Peel, which is good and bad. The seating capacity is probably closer to 300, which makes for a very intimate concert experience. Acoustics are decent, primarily because the space is small and the ceiling is so low. The little cajun restaurant in the back of the place is actually pretty good. Decent beer selection, although they are woefully understaffed if it is a sold-out show. Personally, it's a toss up between this place and the Orange Peel as best place to see a show. They both have their upsides.

As for cheap places to stay in town, I always recommend using priceline. You get better hotels for a lot less money if it works out. If you choose "downtown Asheville" as the area you want to stay in and "2.5 stars" as the level of quality, and they accept your price (I'd try $65), you'll either end up in the Courtyard by Marriott or the Renaissance Hotel. Fridays and Saturdays make it harder to get your price accepted (especially in September), but it happens on occasion.

Here's a good link to people's results from priceline. It's a great resource to know what to bid:

You'll have fun at the Grey Eagle, trust me. Good luck!

Awesome, Thank you.

I put in a req for $65. I'll see what they come back with.

What are some other places besides the downtown to check out in A'ville? I heard there were some great mtn biking trails in the area? Can anyone advise on trails?
