Well I know that it is personal with you, as facts and reality roll off of you like water off a duck.
BTW are you ever going to support anything to counter the facts I have posted that you don't like, or just continue to attempt to divert attention away from the truth with juvenile insults?

I second that motion (I posted the same thing several pages / months back), but I don't think we have a mod anymore. Seriously.
I tried getting them to delete a post of mine and there just doesn't seem to be anyone there.

The reality is that when folks move to an area they naturally cling to their ways--we did it when we came to America and your family did it when they migrated to Asheville or you'd all be living like the Cherokee did 250 years ago. You made them change so why don't you expect the same thing to happen with you?

I think you're taking it to the extreme. Peole don't expect an area to stay stagnant in a steady state existence, they just don't like it (and rightfully so) when large sums of people destroy what brought them here if the first place. Like it or not money talks and dominates the landscape here. I'm not saying that that ppl shouldn't spend their money how they like, but many ppl are ignorant and are oblivious to the consequences of their actions and are so self centered they think of no one but themselves. We're such a me me me society it seems. Just step back and think a little bit before making decisions.

People who are looking for a night life should go somewhere else

For those looking for those things, you WILL be disappointed in Asheville. I'm sorry you made the mistake, and I hope it didn't cost you too much to try it here.

I completely agree. DOWNTOWN Asheville isn't a place to find super stylish people. You have to go to the other towns around Asheville for that. Downtown is different than the other areas. Florida is completely different. People in downtown Asheville live life at a slow pace.
But people who like it here do like the easy life style that is indiginous to the area. Not every city is going to be fast paced.

Asheville is different

I have been in Asheville for almost 5 months. I did a lot of research before my move, visited a couple of times and finally made the plunge. Now, I am thinking to myself..."What a HUGE mistake. HUGE!" As an artist, I came to Asheville, checked out the River Arts district and thought this would be a great place to be inspired. Yes, there's art here and it is sort of inspirational, however Asheville itself isn't really the "artist" town a lot of people like to proclaim this place to be. In fact, Asheville is, especially on this forum, GROSSLY over-rated as some sort of life re-inventing utopia, artist colony or culturally diverse mecca. The people here are odd. Very odd, but I wouldn't say they were culturally diverse. There are hardly any african americans here, hardly any asian. Is the hippie population and the "goth" kids roaming the streets at night part of this cultural diversity? I can honestly say that in the time I've been here, I have barely met anyone I would want to sit down with for more than a casual dinner. That's sad.
I have found this forum frustrating when so many tell people, "c'mon down". You'll love Asheville....everyone loves Asheville. Well I'm here to say that no, everyone doesn't love Asheville. Pretty, yes. But then what? There is not much to do here short of listening to bluegrass music and a travelling show here once in a while. I haven't even seen anything good.
For all those coming thinking of coming here from Miami.....you will be bored to death here!!!!!

I'm sorry you didn't have a good time here. I live in Asheville and always love to go downtown. There are a lot of new stores now that aren't as good as the one's I grew up with. A neat place to go into is Street Fair. Most stores try to be the cliche of "hippy" that everyone thinks is found in Asheville, but there are a few that are actually genuine. Most of the people from downtown that I've always talked to are really nice and genuine.
Usually the reason people in Asheville don't like people from out of town is because we have an epidemic of non-nc residents moving up here and building huge houses on our beautiful mountains. That doesn't make a lot of Asheville citizens happy. Asheville is not like other towns down south. It's not a southern little town. It's a city completely different from the rest of the area.
We have a large white population, but that doesn't mean they are all american. We have a large Greek population and Scottish peoples. Most of the diverse groups are from Europe, hense not a lot of different colors around the area.
If you were looking for the big city life, I'm not sure why you moved here. That's not really what Asheville is about. Western North Carolina is not like Florida. Just because downtown has a big artist population doesn't mean that the area as a whole is like that. There are a lot of wonderful places once you get out of downtown like the Arden, Fletcher, Waynesville, and Black Mountain areas.

Since you brought it up, why isn't Arden listed on this site? I was hoping to get some specs on it, but not listed. Hmm...

Robin--that doesn't mean you can't ask. There have been Arden discussions in the past.
