Are there any Asheville police officers that could tell me how the pay and the benefits are in the area. I went to the Asheville police department website, which said the entry level pay was about $31,000. While that is not bad I was also wondering about how much would I be making annually, with a associate degree and 5 years in the department. This way I can evaluate whether or not I would be able to keep my standard of living, because I do know that Asheville can be a little pricey, especially for North Carolina. Any input would be great. Thanks to all in advance.

Think you will need a 4 year degree to be considered. That was a requirement a few years ago, don't know if they have changed.

Lots of threads here about the cost of living combined with the low wages paid here, making Asheville tough for those that work for a living. And some real figures for those that will undoubtedly scream 'sour grapes' can be found here http://www.city-data.com/city/Ashevi...-Carolina.html

31,000 is not bad? I think it's fairly poor. There's plenty of places in the state with better police salaries.
