Default Are pesty flying insects a given?

Years ago I lived in Connecticut and still remember the deer flies that were so annoying when riding (I'm very horsey). Recently, a friend of a friend moved away from NC because of the bugs. Am I correct to assume that most of the East Coast has nasty bugs to contend with in the summer? I can deal with controlling stable flies but the deer flies were really tough to handle! Thanks for any comments!

Are you saying that you don't have a problem with flies or deer flies in the summer where you live?

Thank you for your replies! Bugs like humidity as much as the plants and mold do. In dry climates like in the high desert areas you have flies but no deer flies or any other flying insects that I can think of that are really a nuisance. Even mosquitoes don't live here. Flies can be controlled somewhat with sprays and things to where they don't "bug" me, but I remember the deer flies in Connecticut swarming around the horses constantly even with fly spray. They would bite through clothes and annoy the horses by swarming around their faces even though they might not land on them.
I lived right next to the Cockaponset state forest then, so I'm wondering if that particular climate was more densely populated with bugs like that or if most of the more humid areas have lots of bugs that can be intolerable. I've been to forests in other states that had gnats so bad I'll never forget the experience---just trying to eat was a challenge!
Anyway, I was just trying to learn as much about the area as possible. I'd sure love to live there from what I know!!
Thank you for any input!

We have all kinds of wildlife here including bugs, but they're not usually a problem in developments, only in the forests. That's because we are blessed with literally hundreds of species of trees and other flora that bugs enjoy as much as we do. We don't see many flies here in the mountains, but around standing water there can be mosquitoes. I hear that yellow jackets are the ones to watch out for, though I haven't met up with them yet. Anyway, any time you enter a thick forest in the Southeast (and elsewhere), you need to be prepared for bugs. Yes. They're part of God's plan. Just wear proper clothing and bug spray.
