Lake James / Hickory Region ? ?
Is there a Year Round community in the Lake James region? We are an early 40's couple with a 14 year old son in 9th grade considering a move from NJ. We have parents moving to the Lake Norman region but lake norman "maybe" too crowded for us.
We find Lake James as an appealing lake --however it maybe too far out in the sticks for year round living.
Plus -- what is the employment climate like in that area up through Hickory?
Thanks for any info that you can provide.....

The Hickory and the surrounding areas are running north of 15% unemployment. What sort of amenities are you looking for to consider living on the lake year round, and what type of employment will you need? If you have a secure job now is perhaps not the best time to uproot and move.

- Not necessarily looking to have "lake front property", just near it is fine.
- We own a small travel business which we could relocate anywhere. our customers are all over the U.S.
- Car sales / Retail sales - management / Advertising Mangement

Lake James is my absolute favorite lake in all of NC
And our winters are not as bad as you are used to, so our lake communities aren't seasonal.
Lake James is a lovely community, but may feel a bit less convenient to you when you want big city ammenitites since Asheville is about 40 minutes away. However, everything you really need can be found closer in Morganton. It's definitely worth a look in my book. Personally, you couldn't pay me to live in the congestion of Lake Norman
