Default What can you tell me about Fletcher, and....

any part of NC for that matter. Hi! I love looking at real estate online and searching the whole country for different towns and areas. I am a southern california native, now living in st. pete area of Florida ( my husband is from here and it is much more affordable than Cali).
I am not happy here though. I know I shouldn't complain and that it is all in our attitude. I just don't see us staying here forever and raising our young family here. I don't like how flat it is, the humidity keeps me indoors for months, depressing, I am paranoid about gators ( I have 2 babies under 2) that will be running around soon, it just makes me sick to think that gators could be in any body of water ( excluding ocean).
I also don't like how much it is like a big city here. Very crowded and a lot of ugly areas.
My dream area is somewhere somewhat rural but not quite. I would like to have larger city nearby(within 30 miles or so). For more job opps. and good hospitals and services for my 23 month old son who has Down syndrome.
So in my many searches I have found my dream home in Fletcher, NC. It really looks like a beautiful area.
Now let me say that I am not dumb, will not be moving anytime soon. Wouldn't move without a job secured. However you never know when or how soon if things are right.
We are a family of 4, my husband and I are in our early 30's, 2 babies. We are Christian, which is a very important part of our life. My husband does everything that has to do with computers, he is also a handyman. Can literally build a house from the ground up. He can work on cars. He really can do anything. He has a Bachelors degree in business, which I realize doesn't mean too much these days. We know work is scarce out there but we have never been affected by it so far. Thank the Lord!
OK I just want to here from real residents of Fletcher and surrounding areas. What do you like about it? Dont' like? Any and everything you could share would be highly appreciated. Just storing info for the future. Also if you would like to share about anywhere that you have lived and liked, I would love to hear about it.
Thank you if you read thru this LONG post.
Jessika

Hi Jessika.

I suggest you take a family trip to Fletcher and spend a little time there. Go to the Visitor's Center, the Library, and a church of your choice. Talk with the people there.

You will get a much better feel for a "fit" if you do it in person.

We spent 2 weeks in NC, thinking Boone was for us... until we visited Hendersonville and Brevard (among many other places).

Each place is unique and has much to offer but only you can determine how it feels.

Good luck! As soon as we sell here in AZ, we are on our way there.

Thanks GuyFriendly!!! So nice of you to take the time. It is funny because we will be going out to visit my parents and entire huge family in L.A. area in a week and they want us to take a road trip up to Arizona to visit some family that has recently moved there. They LOVE it and think we might like it. It would be a lot closer to home for visits.
Anyways, yes we will definitely be going out there some time next year. We visited Asheville and Black Mountain ( I LOVE) great towns, so charming. The only problem is it is one thing to visit and another to live. Gotta GO BABY IS ALL OVER ME LOL!!!

GuyFriendly's right on, Jessika. I hate the flatlands but lotsa folks love FL. I hate the desert but lotsa folks love AZ. Only you can decide what's right for you, what feels like "home," and the only way to do that, really, is to keep visiting prospective communities until you know--not only on a gut level but also by rational assessment: How far away from families do I want to be, maybe for the rest of my life? Where are better career/job opportunities for us? Do I or any of my family have health issues (allergies come to mind) that preclude living in certain areas? How much snow do I want in my life? And so on. You could ask 100 people where they love living, only to find out that you wouldn't like most of them for you. In fact, that's just what we did. Over a period of 16 years, we explored a hundred "retirement places rated" before picking the one that felt most like home for us.

I assume you and your husband get vacations. You might want to use them to do some "places rated" exploring. It's fun! and then you'd know what you like--and don't.

Hi Guy- I am also in Az and flying out to NC this week to scout out some land...what cities did you visit? Which one will be worth my time and which areas aren't? Good luck with the sale of your home. If you want, pm me with your AZ house details, I am currently working with a few Canadian buyers that may be interested.
