well thank goodness, id assumed the congregation voted with him in the decision, as it was a meeting to decide? anyway, good to know there was at least backlash. i heard a friend of a friend was visiting av and looking about town with a realtor and passed a "Private Gentleman's Club". Never came across a town or city with one of those, how much is their presence felt?

Not so sure why the "Don't bike" comment was posted, unless "G" isn't "Crazy" about biking. I might agree to try and stay off of Russ Ave. and/or Dellwood Road, etc. There are many, MANY great places to bike in and around Waynesville. In fact, there are bike rides and races that run through Waynesville and Haywood County. And Mountain Biking? It is a virtual Mountain Bike Nirvana here.

If you ride a PeeWee Herman style bike, it might not be for you, but if you are an experienced cyclist, you will love it here.

Default Don't bike in Waynesville???

1.] There are not a lot of roads....PERIOD

2.] The ones there are, are 'heavily' traveled by cars & trucks

3.] Having lived there, for 6 years or so, I can say that, you'd be taking your life, into somebody elses hands, "if" you ventured onto some of those thoroughfares...

4.] You mentioned hospital work [@HRMC]...the only way to get there is on the frontage road...the only way to get to the frontage road is via a 'designated' highway.....

5.] You may be able to find a back street way, but living in the mountains doesn't afford you the type of transportation routes most people are familiar with....In many cases, you can't just drive over the top of the mountain, you've got to drive 'around' it...many miles sometimes!!!!

6.] You'll find this to be true, in most rural communties...It's not anything like city living....and you don't see many people riding bikes in Waynesville....for obvious reasons

Default The jbird22 challenge;

Name the ""through"" streets that you can bike on.....[there aren't that many streets in Waynesville]

Comeon!!!! I challenge you!!!

Not:>>>>> Russ, Dellwood rd, Howell mill, Asheville hwy, 23-74, Main Street, Frontage Rd....

Waynesville, is a small town.....Small town people just don't bike all that much, for whatever reason
Biking is for the """ NON-LOCALS """....If you get the gest of what I'm saying

Bikeable roads: Main St. (including N and S. main), Old Asheville Highway (a long stretch of it has bike access on the sidewalk, Sulphur Springs Rd, Raccoon Trail, Wall Street, Will Hyatt Rd, Hazelwood Road, Crymes Cove Road, 276, Branner Ave, Richland, Frontage Road, Brown Ave., Virginia Ave., Allens Creek, and many other connected roads from A to B.

It doesn't matter if locals like to bike or not. There are plenty of non-locals that don't bike either. What the heck does local or non-local have to do with the roads being rideable? In fact, the posts on biking were for someone (Spunky1) who is NOT a local in the WNC area anyway.

If people like to bike, and are aware of consequences and risks associated with that activity, (as most are who ride) they can make up their own minds about riding and on which roads they might choose to ride.

There is a guy from Cullowhee who completed a ride from Alaska to Cullowhee, NC last month. If he had listened to naysayers, I guess he'd still be in Cullowhee dreaming of what might have been. I have another friend who went from Lubbock, TX to Cullowhee a while back, in approximately one month.

Never try to put a damper on the human spirit, because a positive human spirit can and does frequently prevail over negativity, my friend.

And Crazy G - Happy New Year! I wish you a great 2008.

I have been on a couple recon missions in this area. Canton was crossed off my list simply because of the stench. I didnt notice it more than a mile away, but it sure ruins a nice little town.

>>>>>>""""WE HAVE ZONING RESTRICTIONS"""<<<<<<<<<

>>>>HORRORS....HORRORS....HORRORS<<<<

The locals don't like/want/need zoning restrictions....

THEY WANT TO PUT THEIR DOUBLE-WIDES ANYWHERE THEY PLEASE!!!!

Yes...one of my few complaints of WNC. lack of building codes give certain areas a more downtrodden feel close to upscale homes. Rusting cars on blocks really should be considered as an eyesore, not a personal freedom. possibly the most beautiful place in America needs better than that. The lack of zoning was explained to me by a relocation expert in Asheville.

top considerations for relocation right now are Sylva and Cullowhee. Nice, clean, surrounded by mnts. Need to check the Hendersonville area simply for better earning potential.
