Cape Cod has worn out it's appeal for us....Used to be a close knit community...people moved here, tried to change things...has lost it's rural character.....I was kicked off riding dirt roads and using access pathways that i'd used for years.....when some bonehead moved and put up a fence...I was told horses make holes in the road....and that's when I moved to brewster.
Tired of winter, ice, snow, tourists and traffic....
This place is great...unfortunately we do have to leave the property! LOL Food prices, gas prices , electricity, heating oil, property taxes and property insurance are high....the attitudes of those in power are insane....They had a selectman a few years back that had an anti horse mindset: enacted 75/ton fee at the local landfill to dump manure??? Thank Heavens we found a local garden that loves it! for free
This house, for those that like the warm waters of Cape Cod Bay ( you can ride on the beach: sand flats at low tide off season) or the cooler waters of the ocean and it's close proximity to the park: exit driveway, cross street, enter path=Park! LOL is great....it's the area as a whole that is the dealbreaker for me.
Property prices 'have' come down, but they were unrealistically high at one point not long ago. I have 1ac, 3br w/ a den ( really 4 br, but the septic size and # of rooms dictate rooms) 3 full bath, 4 stall barn w 3 fenced paddocks and an unfenced practice area under the powerlines out back, oil heat, central air....will go for 475.-525.
Am definitely looking for warmer, friendlier climate...Thanks fo the input....
I would highly recommend looking at the Barnardsville area north of Asheville. Lots of horse people and access to Pisgah National Forest. You will have to drive 10-15 mins to either Mars Hill or Weaverville for shopping and a restaurant and Asheville will be approx 30 mins depending on where you are headed.

SteveandCindy, there are several towns between Pisgah National Forest and DuPont State forest (81 miles of trails...4 significant waterfalls) west of Hendersonville, NC that may have what you're looking for--Penrose, Brevard, Rosman, Pisgah Forest. I know of a couple of places that you can stay with your horses and check out the local trails before choosing your new home. Search horse accommodations and cabins near DuPont. It's a great way to get a feel for the land and it's a bit cooler than the other towns mentioned.
Hello, steveandcindy if you guys do check it out and find out any info we are hoping you would post it! my wife and I are also thinking of relocating from minnesota and have heard good things about north carolina, tired of snow and ice here but also want to hang with good ol horse people!!
Thanks,Dan&Brenda
