Two hearts beating in my chest - but it always makes me proud, what such a small country can achieve Olympia-Liveticker: Hüfner und Wolf kämpfen um Gold - SPIEGEL ONLINE - Nachrichten - Sport (http://www.spiegel.de/sport/sonst/0,1518,672825,00.html - broken link) ... 80 million people and the size of montana. do they teach german at local schools (would love to tutor) ? german wise I found this website GHC - A German Club for North Carolina - Welcome, also went to a german restaurant (haus heidelberg - my husband is from there ). spricht hier jemand deutsch ?

thanks for the messages so far !

Just found out here Fairview, Buncombe County, North Carolina - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, that there are supposed to be 11.1 % germans in the fairview area. WHERE are they ?

does this article mean just the heritage or the actual origin ? half of the people we met over the last years where at least half german/half italian or half irish/half german - but could not talk a word german

QofB,
My guess is heritage, not like Oktoberfest in Cologne, or Munich... ;>)

We had an operation in Dusseldorf, and I made many trips there, back when I worked, carried the bag, and ran the joint.
I could do some simple conversation, order Altbier, and enjoyed every trip to GmbH...

Hey!
I'm also looking for other speakers of German. I have German heritage and have traveled in Germany a few times, but am very much out of practice in speaking. Are there any Deutsche gatherings/events or groups here in Asheville?

Vielen Dank!

Hallo wie geht’s?
I’m from Germany, born and raised near Frankfurt.
There is a German Facebook page,if you search for „Germans living in western North Carolina „ you should be able to find it.
Haus Heidelberg in Black Mountain is one I would recommend to stay far away from, however there’s a fairly new authentic German Restaurant in Troutman that I can recommend,it’s a a husband and wife team,he cooks and she bakes. Other than that I’ve always been disappointed when we went to eat at so called German Restaurants,if for example no one speaks German it’s usually a bad sign ;-)

I clicked on the link and the web page was all in Chinese? I got the page translated, and it was all about car purchases, car sharing, taxes on cars...
