Default How is Hendersonville?

We're empty nesters moving south this year. We thought Hendersonville seemed like a cute, artsy town. Any thoughts from those who know Hendersonville? Anything to watch out for?

Hendersonville is a beautiful town, my hometown. I lived there for forty years before moving to Charlotte. Only problem is traffic and keeping up with population boom.

Default You'll LOVE Hendersonville

The west is the perfect place for people to live. I moved to a town near Hickory and the man at the DMV said many many northerners (and Floridians) are flocking here, so you will fit in and feel at home I assure you!
STAY AWAY from Charlette, unless you like very high crime, I mean high crime that you see in futuristic movies, even the mayor says it is unbelievable- and though many people are moving to Catawba county---if you have kids, DON'T send them to Hickory schools, they have an awful rep, just check out the stats on them and you'll see why.
However, most folks I see are white or Asian, and really, anyone of any color is very nice here, and the crime is not high, I feel safe here.

Stay away from Caldwell county unless you are a staunchy holy-roller...again, these are just the reputation that these places have and what many folks have told me, and it is GOOD to have these forums so you KNOW before you move! I moved to Mountain View from Florida, and I swear most people around here are from up north, so you WON"T feel out of place. The west areas are very nice and liberal with down-to-earth type people. Burke County is really nice indeed too. Blowing Rock and Granite Falls are just beautiful towns.

My parents moved to Hendersonville and they love it! They live in Laurel Park which is just on the outskirts of Hendersonville. They literally live on the side of a mountain and have lots of peace and quiet.

I definitely recommend Hendersonville- it is a very friendly town. You won't be looking for things to do! My parents are super busy all the time...retirement.... HA! I think they have more activites and groups that I do Here is the town website, and it has a bunch of stuff to look at about attractions and activities.

Hendersonville, NC, Hendersonville, North Carolina, Hendersonville, NC, Hendersonville, NC, North Carolina

Asheville and Brevard have lots to offer in the Arts area as well, and they are within 20-30 minutes of Hendersonville. Pisgah national forrest is not far either if you want outdoorsey stuff

Best of luck to you in your decision!

Anita

Charlotte has "very high crime, like crime in futuristic movies"???? This made me laugh outloud.

Yes, Charlotte has crime, LIKE ANY BIG CITY, but certainly not anything worse than usual. It's not like people are being gunned down in the streets and the National Guard has been called out Good grief.

Here's my advice to the original poster - don't take advice from someone who has never even lived in the place they are disparaging. Frankly, posters like this one are the kinds we wish we could keep from coming here to NC at all. Oh, and Hendersonville is great!

I laughed too and totally agree with LM. There is crime, but as with anywhere, it happens in pockets. I've lived in the Charlotte area all of my life and have never had a problem. Use good 'ol common sense and you'll be fine with about any place.

And about the "holy-roller" thing, I've know many people my wife went to college with in Boone who are from Caldwell Co. and they are niether holyer-than-thou, nor rude. Some are religious, some not. Not saying it is'nt there, but you've got those types (conservative AND liberal) about anywhere. The "that's what I've heard...", and "reputation they have..." remarks is a dead giveaway to not having first-hand knowledge to those derogitory discriptions. Too, being liberal or conservative doesn't make anyone more or less accepting. There is plenty of intolerance at work on both sides. It all works both ways.

Hendersonville is a very beautiful area. We try to drop by there when we visit Asheville.

When I checked the Hendersonville real estate sites for over 55 communities , it seemed as though many of them were over a million dollars and most were over $800,000. They all sounded beautiful, like English country estates and cottages, but aren't there places that are affordable to regular people?
