Default Teaching Jobs

I teach high school science and this is my 10th year of teaching. How hard will it be for me to find a teaching job in the Western North Carolina Area. My parents may be retiring near there all my aunts and Uncles on my dad's side are in the peidmont area and I am definitely looking to relocate but a job would be important. I will also have a masters in Biology at the end of next year so a community college may be an option.

We have had a lot of budget cuts for teachers and teacher assistants. Some teachers in Buncombe Co. were let go last year and I am not sure if they hired them back. We have a lot of students graduating from Western Carolina Univ with teaching degrees that can't get teaching jobs because of budget cuts and the lack of any new hiring. I have been trying to get an assistant job for 6 years---it's really hard to get employed.

FYI, I am near Boone. Two of Charlotte's schools are closing!! They tried to close 12 libraries but there was a general uprising! NC Public schools are in a hiring freeze except for essential personnel, though magnet and charter schools still post some positions. I don't know what's happening with private schools. Check out each county school systems websites. That'll give you an indication of what's happening. Several of our local high school's grads got teaching fellowships at ASU this year. App State is after all a "teaching college!"

I wish you good fortune in your hunt!
Tracey

Default Hmmm

Thanks for the input. - Looks like the grass is not really greener on the other side and if I can't find a job I may be stuck up here for a while.
