Default Tell me about Boone

Typical small college town?
Heavy snow in winter?
Cost of living?

I will visit Boone in August - suggestions of what to see and do?

Thanks!

That is awesome - just the sort of place my wife and I love.

Boone may win our hearts; we'll see.

My son and I visited Boone last Dec (for ASU) and found it wonderful. As a matter of fact we were suppose to see other areas but decided to spend the day and night. You can spend all day walking the downtown area in all the shops and eating. Although there are some hippie shops you might not care for (it is a college town). There wasn't any real snow to speak of, a bit on the side of the mountains going up and being from FL I was paying close attention. School wasn't in session so I'm sure we got a different view then normal, to my son's disappointment. One thing I found interesting was the fact that the town seems self contained with everything you need up in this mountain. Unlike some of the other towns not in the mountains. It was also very dog friendly, there was a community bowl of water on the sidewalk. FL is very uptight about dogs. We stayed at the Courtyard (left at the famous 3 store Wendy's) which was fantastic for less than we paid in Lenoir, same chain, on a highway the night before ($50 w/AAA in Boone). I loved it there.

Only thing to watch out for that I know of is the parking time limit, they will ticket you and if you want to travel down the mountain make sure it's open! We got caught (even though it wasn't a scheduled time to be closed) and you find yourself asking the guys standing at the "road closed" area how to get down, how long it will be closed and you realize why they have no answers or clues when they walk away and you see "Inmate" on their backs, hehe... We HAD to get down so we followed Mario Andredi from TN down the other steep, often one lane, dirt side of the mountain in our rented mini van. It wasn't even the speed or the rough terrain as much as my son's (otherwise known as Mr. Know It All) constant badgering about my driving that was going to make us crash. But we made it.

Boone would be great for my wife and me - we both worked for ASU and have hats and shirts. Of course, the ASU we have was Arizona State University, but that's not too big a deal, huh? And our son graduated from the University of Michigan - ASU's first football game this fall.

Yes, we will enjoy our visit to Boone in August.
