We got insurance - that was most important. Also changing power to our names. But gee, we need a mailbox asap.
The house comes with microwave, oven/range, and dishwasher, but today we go shopping for refrigerator, freezer, washer, and dryer. Then we need to schedule delivery and installation.
Saturday we need to clean the house - it isn't bad but sweeping floors would be good (even though we'll do it again after furniture arrives).
Gotta schedule movers and hire a moving truck for early next week.
I have plotted rooms on graph paper and made little paper furniture to scale so we can plan room layouts.
*Notifying the Post Office of your new address
*Ordering one of those cool stamps with your new address on it
*Deciding which room will be the Parkies
*Grocery shopping to fill those beautiful cabinets
*Posting pics of that small stream on your property (FYI we call that a 'branch' in WNC)
*Ordering Landline telephone service
Love the graph paper and paper furniture (I am so that way, too) LOL
Exciting times - I know you will make the most of this best part of your journey!!
The next official City-Data "Western NC" get-together should be at the Friendly's!!!
We will undoubtedly do something like that - maybe July.
Good suggestions above. We may not get a land line. Waste of money.
Garbage collection is easy and $14/mo. We'll have that set up after we are settled in.
Got all the appliances ordered today - but the refrigerator comes last (May 24) so we will stay with the Parkies a while longer. Could have gotten a lesser fridge sooner, but we want the right one, so we'll wait.
Bought the mailbox and will install tomorrow. Also got a welcome mat.
EDIT: One more thing. About that branch... it is just a trickle from an underground spring. The cool thing is that the spring feeds the water from under a tree - it comes from a little cave-like opening at the bottom of the tree. Some time in the future, I will dam an area down stream and create a pond of spring water.
The better news is that the hill has many springs and our well is spring-fed. The water is amazing.
I said something about stuff arriving next week. We close May 7 and will have out storage locker goodies collected and delivered to the house May 10 or so. That gives us a week to unpack boxes before the first appliances start arriving.
Window shades/curtains?
In the time between when we bought our house and moved in, I put an epoxy coat down on the garage floor. If you are going to do that, do it before the cars and feet start using it.
Also, planning shelving for garage and storage rooms.
