Default West Asheville location, looking for opinions

So, my roommates and I are applying for a house right now that is on Dorchester Ave., between Haywood and Patton in West Asheville. We currently live in north Asheville, off Broadway, and we are tired of not getting much house for our money. The house is a very nice 3-bedroom place on a nice wooded lot on what seems to be a very private little street. Although it is close to both Haywood and Patton, it feels like it is back in the woods. I am wondering if anyone here has anything to say about the area as far as crime or anything like that is concerned. I know there is crime in WAVL, mainly near the Pisgah View area, but I also know that there are plenty of good neighborhoods over there as well. Just wondering if anyone has any first-hand experience with that area. Thanks!

I once knew an older lady that lived on that street (or maybe just off of it). She had lived there for a very long time and loved her home and neighborhood. It seems like a very nice neighborhood. Close to Malvern Hills which is a highly sought after area of WAL.

Awesome neighborhood . . . I probably walk through that neighborhood once a day or night, and there is virtually no crime to speak of. The crime in West Asheville gets so overblown . . . I feel perfectly safe walking around there at night by myself, and have never seen any hint of trouble. And you can walk to everything from there.

I wouldn't think twice about moving to that part of town.

Malvern Hills is way on the other side of West Asheville from Dorchester Ave.
