I mean is there ANY group of people between 20-30 who are just single and fun?

No, every 20-30 year old in Wichita is already married. LOL, what would make you ask such a question??

I don't know who says that the "fun" places to live are the most violent ones but I don't think that's true at all. I would definately stay away from the area around WSU. I'd suggest staying away from areas around South Broadway (esp. closer to downtown) and the Planeview and Hilltop areas too.

Old town sounds like a good fit for you. Riverside and Delano would be good choices too. Good luck!

Apartments....pretty much any apartment complex around here will have some young and single folks. I was unfortunate enough to have to dwell in one for a short time while my house was being built. Us old married fogies live in our tract housing in the 'burbs.

Probably isn't the best way to approach natives by implying that a large portion of them could be hillbilly tattooed inbred biker gang members. I believe most people I've met here are pretty normal.....but that's kind of dependent on what you call "normal".

But anyway.... lately I've been out to a few bars downtown that have some pretty decent live bands on the weekends. A friend of mine plays lead guitar for one of them. So while you're stuck here in the dirty flat wasteland with a bunch of total losers you may as well go out and see some local talent.

PS - I lived in Fort Worth for 6 years before I came here. I honestly didn't see anything spectacular about the DFW area that really makes me miss it that much.

Just look at it as a learning experience and be thankful you have a job. There are a lot worse places Wichita
Sounds like Old town might be fun for you. I'm an old fogey, LOL, but the neighbors 20 somethings children seem to find lots to do here.
good luck, you might like it

There are some seriously negative people that troll the forum. Every time the topic of "what is there to do in Wichita" comes up they jump on it and start running the town down like it was some sort h- hole. I concede that it's no Miami Beach, Las Vegas, or LA. But it's not like you're moving somewhere that REALLY has nothing to do. You really don't have a clue until you've lived where I grew up. My home town had a gas station, a funeral home, a flower shop (which supported said funeral home), a couple of churches, and a school.

OK Here's an old fogie analogy: Growing up all I and my friend (I only had one kid my age in close enough proximity that we played together) had to do was play with an atari on a old B&W TV, ride bikes, and shoot stuff with BB guns. That's it. That was my glorious life in a nutshell. Fast Forward 20 years. My kids have cell phones, ipods, Wii, Cable TV in their rooms, tons of friends in the neighborhood, playgrounds in walking distance, neighborhood pool, and so many toys they can't even begin to play with them all......AND THEY STILL COME TO ME ON SATURDAY AFTERNOONS AND TELL ME THEY ARE BORED!!!

Appreciate what you have. It could always be much worse. Trust me.

LOL - Please let us know what you think about Wichita a few weeks after you move here. I think it could be interesting. By the way, when I lived in cosmopolitan DFW I noticed that if you went about 40 miles outside of the metro area you really did see a lot of redneck stereotypes. I remember going into a gas station west of Fort Worth and everyone there seemed to smell bad and were missing teeth - I'm not making this up - I thought I'd hear a chainsaw at any moment and couldn't wait to get to my car and speed away. I don't think rural Kansas is anything like that.

I am relocating with my wife soon. She will be there in a week and I follow two weeks later. We are moving to Wichita for work, both 30yrs old and have no desire for a picket fence or shrubs quite yet. I would LOVE if she could find a place so I could direct the movers to a condo/apartment as opposed to a storage unit.

Sounds like Old Town is the place to go. Any thoughts on what $800 to $1,200 a month can grab us? I am interested in above store front apartments as well as the developed lofts in the area. It has been my experience that the best places never end up on an apartment.com or rent.com site. They get passed on from person to person that know the area. Any thoughts?
