Default Good neighborhoods in east wichita

I keep reading that around Harry st. east of Rock are good areas, and Belair and Andover. Not much new coming on the market right now, I have been watching but very little new. Any ideas?

I'd like to piggyback on this question. As a single young professional (early 30's) interviewing for (and hopefully relocating from the East Coast for) a job around 37th and Oliver, from reading these forums, it looks like the area east of Woodlawn and north of Kellogg is worth considering. I plan to check out this area while in Wichita.

I would think that, as a single person, there would be more for me to do in this area than in the suburbs, but would appreciate any locals' thoughts.

Also, there seem to be conflicting opinions in these forums about where the boundaries of the nice parts of the eastern part of Wichita. Some posts indicate that east of Oliver is fine, others say east of Woodlawn while yet others say east of Rock. Posts in one of the earlier forums on this board seemed to suggest that the area around 21st and Woodlawn isn't that great.

Thanks in advance!

My area (Sycamore Village, Waterford) is bounded by Rock, 29th, Woodlawn & 21st, and is perfectly fine. Been here going on 3 yrs and no trouble to speak of. I tend to recommend pretty much East of Woodlawn and north of Kellogg, just because it has everything we need Being from Atlanta and then a yr in Miami, not much scares me LOL

If you're wanting to move out east. Click here City of Wichita - Patrol East Main This is going to tell you all the crime rates for around that area.

As for being single and moving here.... I'm 27 and can't stand it. Downtown really does suck. To many stuck up people, to many "gangbangers", to many *******s....ect.... I tend to stick to little hole in the walls. A lot of younger people are starting to see it also.

Hey now, it was the downtown young professionals who didn't want the casinos in the downtown area where they work. Guess they didn't want to step over drunks when they go to work Monday morning. You can go to KC if you need to feed your gambling habit. Nice little trip too.

They may still get a casino in some small town around here though. I couldn't care less if they ever get one. I'm not religious that much, just do not care for it. I have talked to counselors who say their business will go up with addicts coming in because they have spent all their families money.

you have no idea what you are talking about. I lived in several towns that had casinos and not one of the horrible things that were supposed to happen did. No drunks, a myth, no crime syndicates moving in. Just a place to go and gamble and jobs brought in. It is a myth that casinos do any damage to a town. BS or people who do not know what they are taking about and parrot the garbage of others that do not know what they are talking about.

As Christopher Hitchens said about believing in god, “That which is expressed without evidence can as easily be dismissed without evidence.” So your ideas that are anecdotal are easily dismissed as there is nothing but your bad feeling to back them up. I have been in several towns with casinos and not once was there the least bit of evidence that the casino did anything to bring on any problems. Drunks in the streets are just as prevalent in Wichita without out a Casino as with one. You would see a casino go up see a drunk on the street that has lived there for several years and say it is the fault of the casino. You may not be religious I have my doubts, but you sure are self-righteous.

If anyone is interested, this is a 2001 study by Grant Stitt using US Department of Justice funds titled "Effects of Casino Gambling on Crime and
Quality of Life in New Casino Jurisdictions":
