Check out the posting today titled "Video's from an Ex-oil rig worker" It has some very good insights and tips. This young man is going to go places, very intelligent. He also had web site links, a blog, lots of good info.

If he already has his CDL and needs something ASAP send him to a temp agency. They can get him on somewhere quickly and while he works for them he can look for something else while working. Once you get working here and you're out in the field it gives you the chance to network with employees and supervisors with other companies so that if you don't like your current position, it's easier to transition to another company.

Oh, and I've never heard of Mile High recruiting. I worked for SOS Staffing, they're a good company. I also know that USC Staffing is run by a former SOS employee and they just opened up a location on 2nd Ave W here in Williston. SOS is on East Broadway across the street from the post office.

If he has a CDL A with all endorsements then just skip the staffing companies and go straight to Power Fuels. They have the best base pay and benefit package currently that I have seen, Key Energy is a close second. If you already have housing in ATL then your best bet is to stay there with the kids while he works for a while and locates suitable housing. On the plus side the State spends a ton of money on services for special needs kids so once you get up here you should be set.

That is really good to know. We do have intent to stay here until we can find something that is suitable for our whole family. Our biggest concern is how long that could take. We are so far thinking summer.

The Baker Hughes event went really well for him. It was very interesting to see how things were handled once there.

If you can afford it, then build. Anything that can accomadate your family will cost just as much as building new around here. If you build you can be in by summer probably.

In all seriousness...if you can afford to build a home or buy one, the prices are high but not much different when you compare Williston to other North Dakota towns like Dickinson, Minot, Bismarck, Fargo, Grand Forsk, etc... 200,000 to 300,000 is pretty much the norm anymore for a new construction in any of North Dakota's larger towns. The only difference is that rentals are outrageous in Williston compared to Bismarck-Fargo-Grand Forks. Minot and Dickinson are heading the same direction as Williston though. If you plan to stay in Williston, build new or buy. Those who don't have the option are the one's hurting right now.
