Sorry, but Williston is no more a Moderator cut: language than Minot is. I think many people get frustrated when they come to Williston because of what is going on right now. When you get into the actual neighborhoods and off the highways, it is actuallya very nice town. Most people just see what is happening on the highways and in the industrial yards around Williston.

Truthfully, a male perspective will always be different than a female perspective regarding issues and concerns about safety. Unfortunately, these nice neighborhoods where folks live want to stay that way...and the residents be they locals, or oil field employees..also need to shop, and go to jobs, and send their children to school and after school jobs. Those of us Women wanting to stay appraised of any concerns regarding the living conditions are just being smart. Pretending that there are not concerns is not smart. imo

This is exactly right Roloff. I frequently drive down the side streets of Williston and you wouldn't know that you're in ground zero of the Bakken. The major highways is where the industrial activity is.

We visited two weeks ago and now we are finally here! My husbands company put us in the hotel until our apartment is finished being built! Before we left Texas we got our concealed handgun license. We've been practicing a lot and I'm getting comfortable with it. It's always better to be prepared than sorry. Our experience so far.... We went to economart to grocery shop and it was like shopping at an albertsons or Kroger. I really liked it bc they have a vegan/vegetarian part in the store! (I'm vegetarian and I was for sure thinking I was going to be SOL). Some people are nice and some are just flat out rude but that's expected. The main streets of Williston seem dirty and filled with truckers but if you get off the side roads it's quite the cute lil town and the college is nice too. We saw kids playing in the park and women were in the store with their kids... I really don't feel like its any different than bein in he DFW area of Texas an also we've lived In Houston so we've seen a lot a lot worse. I think it's just a matter of you must be aware of your surroundings but not walk around paranoid. And of course it's always better to be in numbers. So far so good on my outlook of things. Like I said we came from the DFW and the crime there is awful. I've always been one to be on my guard. I think we will be proud to call Williston our home for the next 1+years if anything changes I'll be sure to post about it haha.

LBMurphy....Glad to hear things have gone so well initially. It is always hard to relocate so far away. Williston will hopefully get as much back to normal as possible...but it will take time. I think that truck bypass will help some in town. It would be nice if folks would not throw trash and disrespect the area like apparently has/is happening. Welcome to North Dakota. Check the facebook page of Williston oilfield wives I think they have play groups and ladies nights out. Good luck, and keep posting
