Default It was a sleepy little agricultural town with 12,000 people living there......

Calgary Herald....."Now Williston, North Dakota is adding thousands of new residents in temporary accommodations to work in the over-heated oil patch. The Herald toured a busy oil rig in the Bakken oil play near Williston this week".

I am not surprised by this quote:

Not everyone in Williston can handle the pace.

A rig worker loves to tell the story of waiting to be served in a crowded pizza joint on a recent weeknight when he realized the overstressed staff - every one of them - had disappeared, leaving the customers to fend for themselves.

No one really knows, but it is much much higher than the Census numbers for sure.

Ok. I read that at the current rate of growth the population could hit 65,000 in about 15-20 years.

A "built up" Williston - one with adequate housing, services, retail, education, daycare, restaurants, etc for its current activity - could easily support 50,000 people right now.

Watford City is debating if it wants to be a city of 7500 or 15,000 . Stanley and Tioga probably have somewhat the same decisions to make. Crosby could grow from around 1000 to 4000.

With the housing available during the 2010 census, Williston was close to 15,000. But the census was actually taken prior to the availability of the couple thousand housing permits/construction was completed. They estimate it is around 24,000 NOT including the nearly 10,000 living in campers, Rv's and Mancamps within close proximatey to Williston city limits. Another 1,200 housing units are expected to be available between now and early summer, with another 2,000-3,000 breaking ground. I don't think a 50,000 population is unreachable within a couple years.
