I have 5 yeas experience with stick welding a fitting I work at the Newport news shipyard in VA building submarines the welding school we have is the best in the country even if you have all the certs and are the best welder In the world you still have to go threw the welding course their passing it and xray I guess my question is would that benefit me for a job in ND or no
Your cents will not be an apples to apples carry-over as the nuke welding code is a higher difficulty code but does not apply to oil field work. I doubt that you will have issues passing the tests though. Typically, you'll need to pass a test weld with any new company whether you have 20 years in the oil field or 6 months.
If you are planning to work in the Oil fields, housing is VERY hard to come by, especially for families. There are "man camps" - some guys stay there during the work weeks, and then as far as 200 miles away for their family time. You need to learn pipe welding for the best chance at one of those high pay jobs. [Mod cut]

Take a look at the bridge over the river there on 85S out of Williston.
And the road construction that was going on there all summer and fall of last year.
It was a madhouse getting thru there for months...25 mph all the way thru for miles.
That's the only way to Watford City, Killdeer, and points beyond so you had no choice.
It drove me nuts. And every mile of the way you saw welders. You could see their arc
a half mile away. And they're still working on the friggin bridge. Don't worry bud. If yer
a certified welder you'll make a fortune in the Bakken.
If you were driving across the bridge on 85...trying to get to Killdeer.....No wonder it drove you nuts....Killdeer is North of Dickinson.....I think folks need to take things with a grain of salt on these forums...
