The welding you are doing does not qualify you for pipe welding. It is a different certification with much different rules than structural or auto welding. Given you were working on axles, having your welds examined by X-ray or dye penetrant are new (I'm assuming they NDE those) but the root pass and fitting concepts will be different. You will need to be familiar with Division VIII, API and DOT requirements. I'd recommend looking in Texas rather than ND as the Bakken shale is not coming back as fast as the Permian. You may also find some structural or auto work there as well.
