I was going to reply to a post from about 2 years ago on this topic but it had been closed. Now that we know Doyle won't be around for much longer, how long will it take to get a shall-issue requirement for conceal carry of handguns? The thought crossed my mind the other day talking to a prision guard here in MN. He said for the past two years, criminals have been complaining about how many citizens are now armed, either in their homes or on their persons.
I'm not trying to start a discussion on guns in general, or crime or the need for firearms in the first place. 48 states allow conceal carry and WI is lagging behind. Just wondering when ppl think something will pass.

I don't know if it'll pass, but I think that it's more likely to pass in the next couple of years. There are a lot of factors involved. Nationwide sentiment seems to be leaning in favor of CCW/CHL permits.

Are we lagging behind or are we ahead of the curve?

Europe and Canada don't allow their citizens to walk around in public hiding firearms in their purses or stuffed into the waistband of their trousers, and whad'ya know they have far less violent crime than we do.

IL and DC don't allow conceal-carry for obvious reasons, I think the reason WI doesn't allow it because we're quite a progressive and common sense bunch of people. Our crime rate is among the lowest in the nation, so most people know we have no need to be "packing heat" at the local Piggly Wiggly.

Ohhh nooo - not this topic again - but ok, I'll bite.

WI will have CCW within two years of the next election - almost a guarentee.

Thanks for the info but all I was asking was when ppl thought something would pass, not if it should. I'm not here to argue with anyone on issues, just trying to make conversation.

that doesnt mean that crime doesnt happen .... not disagreeing with you, but crime happens even in the safest areas of our country.

For what its worth ... just because a state has a provision to issue CCW permits, doesnt mean that they do. California "may" issue, but hardly does in populated areas.

Right, that's why I mentioned "shall-issue" earlier in my first post.

Wish had but do like they do in South Carolina need to attend a class and get certified to carry. See more and more carrying in woods not concealed but carrying because of wolves and bears now. Just make sure people are trained and just not abuse.

Wouldn't you first need to know if people agree with the law before asking when the law will pass?
