That rock is the coolest thing. How'd it get there, in the middle of your property?

A glacier left it behind, there is another rock a few yard from this but it is only half the size. These are the only two large rocks I have seen in our area. I'm sure there are many more buried, but this one is right next to a little valley made by a block of ice getting push by a glacier.

The land is full of kettles holes, holes left when an ice block broke off a glacier and got embedded in the ground, when they melted they left a big hole behind, some filled with water and became kettle lakes.

Loved the story about the rock. I actually told it to my in-laws yesterday as we were watching the Bears get annihilated.

Beautiful farm pic!

I hope you don't mind me posting a few pics that show things by my house in Il. We have a beautiful forest preserve 3 min away. We take my dog for a run there everyday, and recently began to fish in the creek there.
My husband saw these birds and didn't know what they were. My mother in law said they were turkey vultures. Is that right?

They are black vultures. Adult turkey vultures have a red head like a turkey, but the immatures have a grayish or black head like the black vultures. The black vultures have white legs while the turkey vultures have reddish legs like their heads.

Nice pictures!

Thanks guys! And thanks for clarifying that! I never would have thought we would have vultures, but there are carcasses of things strewn about off the trails, so that might be the attraction.

Here are some pictures from the last seven days around Portage. I should have some more uploaded tonight or tomorrow.
