I've only been to Door County maybe once. My parents always took me up North but never along Lake Michigan with the exception of Green Bay which I guess is connected to Lake Michigan. Were the tourist out in full force up there?

Fantastic photos, love them! I have to get up there now that I'm in TR I'm very close!
I haven't been up there for 10 or more yrs. so it is more than time. I know alot has changed, lots of older small resorts going condo now.
I need to check out the Santa Fe shop, I have southwest in my livingroom. My sister in the UP has never been to Anderson's so I think a road trip is in order. We usually meet in Marinette/Menominee.
Did you take 43 to 57 or do the scenic route through Manitowoc and TR?

You need to go again. It is the Cape Cod of the Midwest, a very peaceful place. And the fact that there are no fast food joints really makes it more special. Be sure to bring your bike and bike the wonderful trails in Peninsula State Park, and also hit Rocky Point park and Whitefish Dunes State Park. Those perfect temps, along with the the breeze and the warm sand was a combo made in Heaven. I didnt want to come back home, really. I believe Door County is a special place because when Im on vacation, I normally cant wait to come back home to Chicagoland. Does that tell you something?
Tourists? Oh yeah, the were everywhere, naturally. Saw plates from every imagineable state, multiple times. Even saw some Alaska plates!

Thanks!
Yes, we took 43 to 57. Not the most scenic of routes, but its still quite beautiful. I normally take the route through Manitowoc on the way up, but this time we brought some friends along who had never been to Door County, and he found the route to take via MapQuest, which didnt take the scenic route, naturally. We took IL 31 up to Hwy 12 and then jogged over to 94 to 43/57.

I'm glad you had a good time in Door County. I would like to get up there sometime in the next year or so. I'm debating whether or not to hit up the "Great Wisconsin River Road" this year. Again great pictures and I'm glad you enjoyed your stay up there. I know what you mean by not wanting to come home. Everytime I go to the Northwoods I don't want to leave.

Yes, tells me a lot. I'm heading to Door County (my home) in July and can't wait to see the pristine areas again. I an thrilled that you enjoyed your trip to Heaven!

Thanks Suzanne! Once we crossed back into IL, the traffic got horrible, the road conditions worsened, the development was sickening. For the first time ever I didnt want to come home, I wanted to just build a home on Lake Michigan and stay there forever, in comfortable, peaceful, lovely Fish Creek, WI.

I only took two pictures today. There both pretty similar. It is French Creek State Wildlife Area here in Portage. I love the views here and there is plentiful birdwatching as well.
Again, there isn't much difference in the two.
