Howdy!
My girlfriend and I want to make a 14 days vacation in Wisconsin, next year in September.
The main reason, why we are there, are the ASCA Nationals 2011 in West Bend. We'll look at a few stockdog shows and the finals.
But we do have enough time to see the area around.
The last two days we would like to stay in Chicago, before the rental car issue and flying home from there.

So, I´m looking for some suggestions.
For example, Door County seems to be worthwile!
Is there any Bar or Club performing Live Music shows with Country or Rock Music around? (I don´t expect Garth Brooks...)

...and also very important: what are the Do`s and the Dont`s for tourists..

Thanks and goodby

If you are looking for live music check out www.therave.com and Welcome to The Pabst Theater / Riverside Theater / Turner Hall Ballroom. They are both in Milwaukee and have a wide variety of bands. If you go to The Rave be a little careful about getting lost, the area around the race can be not so nice at night.

Yep, Country Fest, has Trace Adkins, but that's in June. In September, Eau Claire has the International Fall Festival -- nice little fest.

September is a beautiful time to drive in the country. Door County might be nice for that -- I'm partial to Colfax, WI for fall colors, though.

What do you like to do?

Be careful, compared to Germany the US can be very dangerous.

I point this out to show the extremes, sure there are bad places in the U.S. but there are also bad places in Germany. It really depends upon your awareness of the situation around you. Unless you go hunting for the less savory areas here in the States then you prob will not encounter them.

Being Germans too, we stayed in Wisconsin for 4 weeks this summer. We did not see a lot of dangerous areas.

On the other hand, there are no areas in the city where I live where I would not go to when it's dark.
And the only time I got mugged resulting in serious head injuries happened in the US. So yes, I also think it's generally unsafer in America.

Ever been to Milwaukee? Love the city but some areas are extremely sketchy. I've never heard gunshots in any German city.

Be sure to visit Madison, it's very nice.
