Hello,
I am a single female in my late 20's and have a great opportunity near wausau, wisconsin. I was wondering anyone's opinions on this---I am very outdoorsy and love the wisconsin lakes and biking, skiing, etc. Will I be happy and entertained enough in this area. Just concerned that it may be too small..???
thanks in advance for any replies!

Where are you coming from? When you think of the population, you have to include Wausau, Rib Mountain, Schofield, Weston, Rothschild, and Kronenwetter as they all butt up to each other. I would guess the population between 50-75k. It is a nice community with a lot of outdoors things to do. Lots of lakes within a 1-2 hr radius. Plenty of areas to bike, fish, and there's Rib Mt. One of the most popular skiing spots in Wisconsin.

Wausau is a nice area with a lot to do as far as outdoor activities. Just be prepared for cold winters and a lot of snow.

We visit there a few times per year and like the other poster stated when you add the smaller communities around Wausau it is not all that small. You are also close to the resort areas like Minocqua/Eagle River. If you enjoy outdoors and don't mind the cold and snow it is a nice place. I might add that there are good roads, easy drive, to Madison or east to Green Bay & Appleton area.

from an outdoors standpoint i'm sure you would love it. however wausau is not for everyone. some love it and stay forever - but if you are not a small town person you may end up hating it. for a town of its size it is not too bad as far as places to eat, shopping, etc. salaries are typically terrible, and housing is incredibly cheap.
