Default New Berlin or Glendale

We are moving from CA to the Milwaukee area and wonder what New Berlin & Glendale are like. We are a young couple- and are very active. I also like to shop and be close things. As far as housing- I do not want to be "on top" of our neighbors.. have some land but not to be in the "sticks". I have seen a lot of postings on various cities- but no one really mentions New Berlin....

Thanks!

Smile Hi jmrabchenia

Hi jmrabchenia ~

Glendale and New Berlin are wonderful cities. We live in New Berlin and love it here. Like you I love to shop and being close to things. We moved to New Berlin about 13 years ago for the same reasons as you want. We didn't want to live so close to our neighbors. The homes in my neighborhood are on acre lots and that is perfect for us. We are on the West side of New Berlin (older homes) but still very large and nice. We do have well & septic. Some don't like it but those of us who have it really do like well & septic.

Let me know if there is anything you would like information on about NB.

New Berlin and Glendale are not cities, they are Milwaukee suburbs. (This may be better in that forum)....both are relatively inexpensive vs their neighbors....i.e....Brookfield is more expensive than New Berlin...and Whitefish Bay is more expensive than Glendale.

Probably a little more bang for buck in New Berlin....but Glendale is 5 miles from downtown.

Both are solid middle class burbs.

Sounds like Glendale all the way... You'd be too bored in New Berlin (its relatively more remote from everything when compared with Glendale). You can get some great deals on houses in the area right now.

Wink Hi jmrabchenia

Hi jmrabchenia ~

I am not sure why that member is saying New Berlin is not a city??? I am a bit confused on that. Like I said we really like New Berlin and it is not far from shopping or anything really. For us it is a great location.

I guess everyone sees things differently. It will all depend on what feels right for each. Good luck with your search. If you have more questions for me.... feel free to PM.

Do you know where you and/or your husband will be working? I would think the commute might be the deciding factor for you.

Glendale is obviously far, far closer to downtown, so if you do not like commutes of length, you'll be much closer to work in Glendale.

I think this somewhat boils down to what you like. Glendale is more urban, closer to the Lakefront and Downtown, closer to the "action", etc.

New Berlin is more suburban, a little quieter and darker at night, close to the city but still fairly "out" in the 'burbs.

I believe currently you can get slightly more "bang for your buck" housing-wise in Glendale currently, but lots will generally be closer together / smaller than in NB as well.

Both are very nice communities. If you are looking for the more "out" suburban life, New Berlin is the way to go. If you are looking to be closer to the "action" then Glendale is the way to go. Both are nice but very different.

To me, Milwaukee is a small city. New Berlin is a suburb of Milwaukee. It isn't a good or bad statement about New Berlin. It's just what it is...I believe it would be misleading to say New Berlin is a "city."
