My wife and I bought land off of hwy 50 b/t Lake Geneva and Kensoha. I will retire form the military in 10 years and my kids will be 14 and 10. Was this a good decision? We like outdoors and summer activities. How bad are the winters? Overall was this a good choice!?

So long as the land wasn't in an area near the intersection of Hwy 50 and 83 (near New Munster, WI). That area is notorious for almost continual springtime flooding. Otherwise that entire stretch of drive is very pleasant and a good choice in my opinion.

Wow thanks! I'm not to far from that area but the property is on a hill so I might be lucky, it's about 1.5 miles east. Thank you so much for your reply!

As long as you're on a hill it should be fine because the Fox River floods constantly in the spring and fall. It's a nice area - you'll hear plenty of cows mooing and tractors plowing. Check out which school district you'll be in - some are better than others.

I'm sorry if I sound rude but this is basic due diligence you're supposed to perform before making a purchase like this. What good does our opinion do you now? If were to say you made a huge mistake, what would you do?

Well thank you all for input, @ Drover: well if the input I recieved was negative then I would probably sell it once the economy gets better. I paid cash for the property b/c I didn't want the money to just sit in the bank. So no loan equals no hardship on my part. The property is about an hour from my folks and family so I'm not too close but not to far. So far from everything I know about it it is in a great location however that is just the info I was told by my parents, which were the ones that saw it and let me know it's nice. I have never been to the property but I am planning to make it out there for the 4th of July weekend.

@ Syrnative: as far as the school district I was told by the real estate agent that my kids would be going to Burlington.

Lake Geneva is one of the most desirable areas in Wisconsin, so unless the land is in the middle of a swamp or something, you probably did fine.
