We are relocating to the twin cities and found a home in Somerset, Wisconsin but trying to find a internet provider for that area has not been fun. Can someone tell me is the only way to have internet access is through Somerset Phone company and pay 84.00 a month for 1 meg service?
Thanks |

Hello:
I have been a resident for over 7 years, in which I have yet to find a great service provider. The local telephone service may be a little on the steep side, however it was always hassle free, and I could go down a few streets and talk to someone. Trying to find something better I went with Hughes Satellite services and it has been a NIGHTMARE. Tech support level1 is deplorable; Level 2 to Level4 will dismiss your concerns in a demeaning manner. Hughes sell their services as High Speed Internet, comparable to DSL, please do not believe them. It is not true, I have called their "support" due to the lack of performance over 12 times in the last two weeks and I have been told by them (Tech Support) that is an alternative to DIALUP, not high speed Internet. They are misleading their clients and it will work OK for the first 30 days until the money back guarantee is over, then you are on your own. The experience has been so upsetting that I have lost sleep over it !. Trust me, it is not worth it and I have the documentation to back up my claims, I write everything that goes on every time I call support. I have an Idea what customer service an tech support is, having over 25 years of experience in the Computers Field, various Microsoft certifications, and over 400 hours of other related courses. Unfortunately, now I am stuck with them so do speak, they will not replace my defective equipment and will not let me out of my contract. I will continue to struggle with them and will post a follow up after I call their Corporate Office in MD. |

I moved to Somerset, Wi in May of 07. Coming from a Information Technology back ground I know a thing or two about internet service and customer service too. Since moving to Somerset, I needed high speed internet, so I went with Hughes net because of what they advertised. What a mistake, I couldn't agree more on how poor the service is, the tech service is a joke. I have called in several times about the speed being should we say slow "19.1 kbs" which is actually slower than dial up. I am paying 140 dollars a month for something that is terrible. That's only when the service is works, my service is down and now I'm having trouble getting a technicain to my house to fix it. I've called and left messages and they don't return my calls, so I call tech services and the Field technician called support and said I haven't called at all. I spoke with a manager after 2 hours on the phone the other night and got even less help, but he did say keep calling and if a techician comes twice in 30 days and can't fix the problem they will give me the option to cancel the contract with no penalties. Well I will have to let you know if that is true or not. I have 6 monthes left on the contract to cancel now they want 300 cancelation fee, and a 400 dollar equipment fee. What I dont' get is the equipment is only worth 500, if you wanted to pay up front. I pay 40 dollars a month on equipment. At 6 months of the contract at 40 dollars that is 240 of the initial 500 hundred. So I should only have 260 left, but instead they charge you for the full price if you cancel. This company is a joke, take my word for it stay away from this company, you will end up with more headaches then what it's worth!!!!!!!!!!!!
