Right, I figured that the Canadian Shield extended further south, I just didn't have the map right in front of me. I do know based on climate that all the counties in the interior northern portion of Wisconsin further removed from Lake Superior have the lowest absolute temperatures in Winter. I think the coldest temperature ever recorded in Wisconsin was -60F in Sawyer County (Couderay) in February 1996.

Yes, if one person here appears to be getting defensive a bit perturbed...

Where are the overly sensitive Superior and Beloit folks to step in and register their offense when I and others describe their hometowns as "holes?"

"Angry about my upbringing." You're a peach. I grew up in SP, not GB.

We are making progress here, though. Typically, people from Madison and Milwaukee think the Northwoods starts (and perhaps ends) at the Dells.

30 miles...yes...that takes you to about Oconto Falls. Deep, deep woods there. Or were you talking about Navarino to the west? Yes...the great Northwoods.

Minneapolis is just as cold in the winter as GB but a lot sunnier. And if you think GB is cloudy, try any place the other side (downwind) of Lake Michigan. You ain't seen nothing when it comes to cloudiness. Detroit, Cleveland, and Buffalo are all cloudier than Seattle (cloudy hours per year).

Locals stand in the way of your "Intellectual curiosity", give me a break, you sound ridiculous. Share some of your intellectual insights, Green Bay residents obviously cannot grasp, so we could appreciate your "intellectual" loneliness more.

Yeah, it's enough to make one wonder how anyone could say intellectual curiosity is looked down upon in Green Bay.
