We grew up there, left and never will move back. Winters too long. Oh yes, and with the climate trends, this will likely continue. When I was a kid, summer was July through mid August. Then it would start to cool down.

Winters are far more manageable here because Wisconsin can deal with snow removal far better than the South can. I would much rather take an additional month of Winter than 2-3 additional months of Summer. I grew up in the Kansas City region and they shut everything down for a couple inches of snowfall or less because the morons there couldn't budget for proper equipment to deal with the expected amounts of snowfall each Winter.
Lubbock has a horrible climate, and a latitude that is MUCH TOO FAR SOUTH to be comfortable, particularly if you have fair skin and of northern European ancestry like I am.

I think WI is just beautiful and I'm looking forward to returning for more camping and fishing. As for living there, though, jobs aren't plentiful in my field and the property taxes seem very expensive.

Madison has seen a good deal of private sector job growth, even during the last several years. Jobs in healthcare, technology, and engineering appear to be strong. Of course continued growth has been realized in education and research realms as well.

Madison has been in the mid to upper 70's all week! (The rest of the week is another story.)

I just moved back a week ago after being gone about 18 years.
L O V I N G it!

Experiencing a little culture shock: People are polite/helpful (I am in heaven about this), use their signals while driving, no one's tried to cut in line or tried to pull a scam, the fact that the population isn't 789,123 people per square mile is a dream.

I'm a winter hater, but we can't have it all!
