Default Rib Mtn? Does anyone know anything about that area?

Were looking at buying a home in the Rib Mountain area. Just wondering what's it like to live there? Do you like living in that area as opposed to living in Wausau? We have 2 elementary age children and want to be around other kids, have access to running trails, parks, etc. Any information is helpful. Thanks!

Rib Mountain is a very nice area. The school is very good. They have a great walking/biking trail. The park is a wonderful resource. It is a booming area as far as shopping goes.

We just moved to Rib Mountain and LOVE it. Depending on which side of the mountain you are on... your kids would go to Rib Mountain elementary or South Mountain. I have read that they are both excellent schools. We have one elementary-aged child and one a little younger. There are TONS of kids around and it seems like a nice safe area for them to ride their bikes and play. We love that there are paths through the woods right near our house. The kids are also in love with all the animals we have encountered. The deer are everywhere (to the dismay of our flowers), and we have two kids of owls right in our backyard.

Wausau is right down the road, so everything is close.

By the way, thanks to everyone who was advising us while we were deciding whether or not to move to the Wausau area. We truly do love it so far.
We haven't had trouble with making friends in the area. People have been friendly and not smothering....

That said... we also saw some areas of Wausau that looked like they were nice to live in, as well. We just happened to fall in love with Rib Mountain!

We ended up purchasing a house on Sturgeon Eddy Road in East Wausau. My husband loved Rib Mtn but we couldn't find the "perfect house". Anyhow, love to hear you love Rib Mtn Signora.

Thanks!

We looked all over Rib Mountain, Wausau, Schofield and Kronenwetter. We finally found our little home in Weston Village.

I love it here. The one thing that shines above everything else is how safe I and my family feel.

Signora and abanderson, hope you are settling in. Look out for the Art in the Park Festival this coming September in Wausau. I've been told it is great and very family orientated.

I would myself move to wausau, and try not to contribute to sprawl,
and fix up an old house,
Wausau is the best place to live in the area, I was in Wausau for six months,
and was quite depressed with the whole affair, but found the most liveable area was old wausau,
too bad what happened to wausau, if you look at the old pictures,
of street cars and vibrant street life you just wouldnt believe whats there now,

there is however some money going back into wausau which is nice, with the palladian being built and the dudley building just recently completed,
moving to rib mountain is exactly how not to support the city
and non sprawl life, and how to make interesting wild wisconsin disappear

i find that people who live in what ive never heard of that,
move from one ive never heard of that to another,
not even to a minor, okay ive heard of that,
and thats just too bad.

if i had to live in the wausau area, it would be in wausau, because atleast
i could walk somewhere without gassing up the old pickup.
its too bad the old courthouse is nothing but a perenial grassy knoll/scar that will never heal and that the trains never stop at the train station anymore,

hiawathas is a great place to get fish fry though,
wausau is a great town, its just too bad that its lifeblood is being sucked away by parasites like weston et. al.

I wonder, is the Hiawatha still open? You are correct, the Dudley building is quite spectacular (except for the weeds).

I lived in Weston (then called Schofield) for 9 years, and then on the west side of Wausau for about 4. I only moved from Schofield to Wausau because I was sick of driving the Avenue every day to my job on the west side.

I think the DC Everest School district is excellent, and if I were to live in the Wausau Metro area again, I would look in Weston or Rib Mtn. I would be careful with Wausau proper, as neighborhoods differ from block to block. Pick a nice one, don'b buy or rent sight unseen. Rothschild is nice too, with exception of the smelly paper mill.

i was last at the hiawatha this past winter,
so as far as I know its still open, i think its on grant street where it dead ends to the beautiful old train station.
i was lucky enough to finagle my employment company into
having me stay at the stewart inn on grant,
which is the best bed and breakfast in wausau, and perhaps all of wisconsin,
the stewart inn is an old george maher house that is in amazing condition,
and the folks that run it are great, and amazing cooks.

Default sprawl

I am trying to figure out exactly how moving to Rib Mountain is a disservice to Wausau and contributing to sprawl....

We moved into an older house and are fixing it up. I have seen some new things going up (especially on the North side), but there are also existing homes for sale. We are also leaving most of our yard wild so as not to get rid of perfectly healthy trees. Unfortunately, we do have to get rid of most of our Birch trees.... They are not doing well.

We love the feel of our older neighborhood with beautiful mature trees and no construction. I well understand over-development. We had HUGE issues with that where we used to live....
