Default Oxford Wi

My husband and I moved to Oxford WI 11 months ago. I'm having a real hard time with this move. I can't figure out how I can find friends here - it seems I have nothing in common with anyone I've met. I don't smoke or drink, I'm a vegetarian, organic gardener, democrat, not religious, LOVE dogs. The people I have met here in the past year are it seems - the complete opposite. We moved here because property is cheap, but I'm very lonely, and becoming really depressed.

How do you meet people in a tiny town of 500? It's like a deserted planet - it's summer and there is NOBODY outside - I haven't seen one child all summer!

Another thing - I've caught 4 stray dogs since I've been here. I've now found out that they go right to a high kill pound (3-7 days). There's no humane shelter here or in the bordering county. very very depressing.

Ugh, no good advise, just sympathy--your description of yourself could pretty much be *my* description of myself. Maybe see if there are any organic farms around that do CSA's? I know the CSA farm that I bought from for a few years often had people out to help (though they were in Stoughton), so it'd be a chance to meet some like-minded people in the area.

Default About Oxford

I wish you the best of luck. We moved from Oxford to Wisconsin Rapids. We found the same thing here. I was born and raised by Oxford so I knew lots of people. But only had a few friends. Thank God for my Husband being my best friend. But I understand it would be nice to have someone else.

Hello, my inlaws lived in Oxford for years. We would visit them there. Went to Peppermill lake and that was about all there was to do actually. My kids hated it there....told us to follow a Illinois car back to civilization and so on. We suffered the heat, bugs and bordom. Big day of the trip, a visit to the Lakeside "junk" store, or Pills and Frills.maybw sneak up to the Dells and then HOME James!
In short, I do not know how you tolerate that place!!! Good luck!
