Does anyone know if a country bar/food place called Bullshooters is still open in the Wausau area? I tried to find it on the web but the web site was closed. I could have called the phone number but I thought someone on here may know if they are still open.

Bullshooters came to a rather inglorious end amongst a flurry accusations by employees, bands, and tax collectors of non-payment. By the sound of things, it's something of a miracle the owner wasn't tarred, feathered, and run out of town on a rail. The land/bar itself was recently sold at a sheriff's auction.

Bullshooters closed down; owner ordered to pay $161000 | Nashville Real Estate Blog (http://nashvillerealestateblog.org/797/bullshooters-closed-down-owner-ordered-to-pay-161000/ - broken link)

Why this made news in a Nashville real estate blog, I'm not sure. Maybe because a number of start-up bands from Nashville played there or something.

Thanks Drover,

We stopped there sort of by accident and liked the place but recall wonering if the place could make a go of it. It fit right in with some places I visited in Texas.

I enjoyed the place, but I think they made it too big to make a profit. I think you would need big name entertainment there constantly to make money. Or have a real kitchen and make real food and not just bar food.

Our oldest son is traveling with us this fall and I know he would have liked the place. We did not eat there last year but a friend who was with us had not had lunch so he ordered food and said it was good. He was looking forward to going back this fall but no go.

As an ex-employee, I can tell you that the original owners were amazing, but got blind sided by an an employee of theirs who took advantage of their trust and kindness. He (Bob), then acquired the bar, and drove it right into the ground. Failed to pay employees, vendors, bands and taxes. He even went so far as to take child support OUT of one employees checks, but NEVER paid it IN. He SHOULD be in jail. Due to political connections that run deep, he's not. However, he maintains a very low profile in our town....as his life depends on it. Ok. Maybe just his truck tires depend on it. ;-)
